Taxation Is Nothing More Than Theivery

Taxation in the United States is out of hand. Our Government is nothing more than a bloated, rotting carcass of waste! Government spending is gutting our country. It is high time for some change, don't you think?

Here is one way to think about taxation. Suppose a man walked into your house with a gun and demanded you hand over a portion of your weekly earnings or be shot. You would consider this a violation of your rights and properly label it "armed robbery." Suppose this man said he was going to do good things with your money such as defending you from other robbers, feeding the hungry and educating children. You would still not accept this as a good reason to rob you. Regardless of what the robber intends to do with the loot, theft is still immoral and illegal. If you accept this premise, I have to ask: how does theft become acceptable when our government is the one demanding our money?

You see, our government demands we give them a portion of our earnings for them to do with as they please, or they will send armed men to come and arrest us and throw us in prison! Sounds like armed robbery to me! Just because a group of legislators say that, because they "passed a law" you must submit to their theivery, and because they have armed men at their disposal to make you submit, the immoral nature of taxation doesn't change. Taxation is based on coercion. It is time to get rid of the coersive taxation in this country.

There are alternatives to financing government-alternatives that are based on voluntary cooperation and respect for the rights of individuals. Could we survive without an income tax? Remember, there was no permanent income tax before 1914. Without an income tax, Americans prospered. By 1900, America was first in the world in per-capita wealth and standard of living. After 1914, and especially after WWII, the federal government has grown enormously and the federal income tax has risen to astronomical proportions. So what can we do?

First of all, it is imperative to cut the level of spending by the government. By confining the federal government to its original legitimate functions of national defense and protection of constitutional rights, we could repeal the federal income tax and eliminate that despised federal agency, the Internal Revenue Service. Even if the income tax were not eliminated, it could be drastically reduced. Since high taxes reduce productivity and low taxes increase productivity, federal income tax must be cut dramatically! Again, this is just one step that must include less government spending.

An interim step to 0 income tax would be to institute a flat tax rate of 5% or a national retail tax of 5% coupled with reducing the federal government to one-third its current size. Again, it is government spending that must be reduced to make tax reductions easier.

I agree with you that taxation is out of control and I would love to see another way. I would like to see a flat tax or a luxury/sales tax take the place of the current tax empire. But, I don't know how to stop the runaway stagecoach.
